Overview
You qualify for ASTQB AI Assurance Pro™ by holding three certifications: ISTQB Foundation Level, ISTQB Testing with Generative AI, and ISTQB AI Testing. Once you have all three through ASTQB or AT*SQA, you must contact the AT*SQA support team and request the designation. It will not be added automatically.
Step by step
Start with ISTQB Foundation Level
This is the only required exam in the path with no prerequisite. It also unlocks the two specialty exams.
Add the two specialty AI certifications
After ISTQB Foundation Level, earn ISTQB Testing with Generative AI and ISTQB AI Testing. There is no required order between those two, so choose based on what is closest to your current work.
Register through AT*SQA
ISTQB exams purchased through AT*SQA are valid globally. You can take them online from home or office, or at testing centers worldwide.
Request the designation after all three are complete
You need to contact the AT*SQA support team and ask for the designation once the three qualifying certifications are done. It is not added automatically.
Maintain it every year
The designation is valid for 12 months and is renewed through one or more AT*SQA AI-related micro-credentials annually.
How registration and scheduling works
- Buy the exam voucher through AT*SQA
- You then have up to 365 days to schedule and complete the exam
- If you plan to test online, secure online proctoring is available worldwide
- If you prefer a test center, Kryterion locations appear inside the scheduling interface
- Inside your account, you use the exam scheduling and online exam access area to schedule in Webassessor
AT*SQA’s online exam instructions require a system readiness check before scheduling an online exam.
AT*SQA's ISTQB FAQ and online exams page answer most of the practical questions about voucher timing, system checks, rescheduling, and remote proctoring. If you are still comparing where to register, this guide on where to get ISTQB AI certified is another useful reference.
AT*SQA rescheduling policy: you can reschedule for free as long as you do it at least 72 hours in advance. That makes it easier to buy early and schedule later without boxing yourself into a bad date.
What to expect at each stage
During ISTQB Foundation Level prep
Expect the heaviest terminology work here. If you have been testing for years without formal ISTQB study, Foundation Level can feel more like learning a shared language than learning brand-new ideas.
During GenAI prep
Expect the material to feel immediately applicable if you already use AI tools in your workflow. It tends to be about disciplined use, not just access to the tool.
During AI Testing prep
Expect more emphasis on AI-specific risks and the reality that AI systems do not behave like ordinary deterministic software. This is often the piece that most directly changes how someone thinks about QA.
What happens after you get it
ASTQB AI Assurance Pro™ is valid for 12 months. To keep it active, you complete annual continuing education through one or more AT*SQA AI-related micro-credentials. AT*SQA includes a free micro-credential exam with each new ISTQB exam purchase, which can make the maintenance part easier to plan.
That maintenance rule reflects how quickly the tools, methods, and risks are changing. A one-time credential would go stale fast.
If you are still deciding whether the path makes sense, compare this page with what the designation is, what each certification covers, how testers tend to use it in practice, and how testers usually move into this work.
